Kakamega Homeboyz winger joins KDF

Stephen Etyang will feature for Ulinzi Stars after graduating from the Recruits Training School (RTS)

Kakamega Homeboyz are set to lose winger Stephen Etyang in the next few weeks as the speedster is expected to join the Kenyan military.

Etyang is set to head for military training and once he is out he is expected to join military backed FKF Premier League side, Ulinzi Stars.

“He is leaving Kakamega Homeboyz. He got an opportunity to secure his future and he has decided to pursue it. Homeboyz have decided to let him leave and he will be joining the military in the next few days,” a source close to the player told Mozzart Sport.

The former Palos FC and Nzoia Sugar player joined Homeboyz in 2018 and went on to become a key player for the Kakamega-based club under coach Nicholas Muyoti and he now leaves, leaving Homeboyz a man short in attack.

A product of Kakamega High School, Etyang started his career in the National Super League (NSL) with Palos FC but it is at Nzoia Sugar that he hit the ground running and in 2018, Homeboyz went for his signature. He went on to thrive at the club but last season he did not see much playtime as he was largely used as a sub.

He becomes the latest player to cross over from Homeboyz to the KDF after Festus Okiring. He joined the military from Homeboyz in 2020 and he was expected to turn out for Ulinzi Stars once he graduated from the military school. He was however slapped with four-year ban by FIFA over match-manipulation allegations and he will be out of football until 2024.
